The Area

Buxton is an ideal base for exploring the delights of the Peak District National Park be your preference the high moorland of the Dark Peak or the more gently rolling limestone dales of the White Peak. Grand  houses such as Chatsworth and Haddon Hall are within easy reach, as are Castleton, home of the world famous Blue John mines, and the ‘plague village’ of Eyam.

Alternatively, enjoy a scenic train ride into Stockport where you will be amazed by a visit to the underground tunnels built as air raid shelters during World War Two – a perfect outing for a rainy day!

Buxton itself presents plenty of opportunities, the Pavilion Gardens regularly hosting antiques fairs, craft fairs, book and toy fairs, and Poole’s Cavern is a short walk from the centre of town.

Buxton Opera House is also well worth a visit; there is a very varied programme of entertainment, both there and at the Pavilion Arts Centre, and tours of the Opera House are also sometimes available.
